Neither Chillingworth nor Dimmesdale are characters worthy of sympathy. However, Dimmesdale was truly the most tortured and suffered the greatest loss, which was his religion and the love of his life. Even though Chillingworth was the victim from the beginning, however, he made it worse for himself by dedicating his life to only revenge and nothing else. I truly share Katya’s sentiment.
